About me

A little bit about me...

Happily married and the wrong side of 60, living in London.

I'm a mixed media artist, journaller & book binder. Also fascinated with all things digital, I now design blog backgrounds and other toys.

Here's the potted bio:

I've always loved art - I remember that I drew before I could read and write, and my mother assured me that I could draw before I could walk or talk (none too sure about that one!)

I do remember her teaching me how to embroider (very wobbly satin stitch and a rather better buttonhole stitch) when I was around 5. My grandmothers taught me to knit and crochet (although I never really got along with knitting).

Age 11, I learnt needlework at school (and spent most of my time unpicking). Age 14, I finished my first skirt (with one of those old Singer hand-operated machines) and got an electric machine for Christmas. Here's a little YouTube video... it reminds me of my father, who stopped buying me clothes and just kept giving me lengths of fabric instead! If I wanted to go out in something new to wear, I had to make it first.

I went to Trent Poly in the 70s and studied Fashion Design after finishing my Pre Diploma in Art&Design. (I actually wanted to do  illustration but there weren't any dedicated courses in those days!)

Next: a small antique stall on Portobello Road Market (London) at the weekend, selling vintage jewellery, then owning my own company in the '80s and '90s, designing and making jewellery & hair accessories.

Then: back to fashion, designing and making traditional nightwear and robes, regularly selling at craft fairs. I then introduced some handmade cards and paintings... and full circle... back to the paper arts and bookbinding etc. I’ve written regular Workshop articles for Craft Stamper magazine, and contributed to other craft publications including Simply Stamping, Crafts Beautiful, Practical Crafts etc.

After teaching arts & crafts at Rainbow Silks and BladeRubber Stamps, I'm retired - so I scrapbook, journal and bind books. I also write tutorials, which are for sale in my Etsy shop.

Any spare time is spent blogging.
